April 2000

Dear Teacher,

Welcome to our first issue of Literature Lessons. Our goal is to help you and your classes enjoy fine literature. We have selected two outstanding books: Charlotte's Web and Stellaluna.

Charlotte's Web has been loved by children and adults since it was first published in 1952.This is the tale of Charlotte, a spider, and her efforts to save the life of her friend, Wilbur, a pig. It isbeautifully written with messages of friendship and hope.

Separated from her mother before she is old enough to fly, Stellaluna, an adorable baby fruit bat, finds her world turned literally upside down when she's adopted by a family of birds.

In addition to activities and information on the two featured books, you can find a Literary Glossary (definitions of genres and literary terms), a sample website for a teacher to create, a book group for parents and kids, and many more reading resources. Click on a topic below to explore these wonderful pieces of literature and our other literature items.

Happy reading!
