All teachers, but especially those who work with students with emotional and behavioral disorders, know that behavior and classroom management are interrelated. Behavior management involves teacher activities designed to promote positive behaviors in students, while effective classroom management refers to all of the things teachers do to organize students, space, time, and materials. Being successful in these two heavily linked areas leads to higher student achievement in every grade and subject.

The articles, checklists, and documentation forms in this issue will give you a strong background to build this all-important interconnected relationship. The materials are excerpted from the CEC book Back Off, Cool Down, Try Again: Teaching Students How to Control Aggressive Behavior.

Chaos in the midst of chaos isn't funny, but chaos in the midst of order is. – Steve Martin
