September 4 Today we toured my school and we met my teacher. The headmaster of my school, Mr. Archer, showed me where all of the classrooms are. My teacher's name is Mrs. Hillman, and she is very nice. I will try to join the school football team, even though there has never been a girl on it. I feel very excited about the first day of school tomorrow. I hope it will be fun! I do miss home, but there is so much stuff to do here that I am enjoying being here. September 5 Today was my first day of school. We came in with the teacher and sat down. We didn't have to stand and say "hello" to her like I heard students do here. She called out our names and gave us booklets to write in. We did handwriting. I liked the lines in the booklet. It was just like first grade! We went out to recess. The playground was really different than my old playground. There was less blacktop and more grass. We have a football field at my new school, and I like playing there. Well, except that at recess some boys teased me about my American accent. They also didn't want me to play soccer with them because I'm a girl. The students here are much quieter than in America. They are very respectful in class. After recess we did math, or "maths" as they call it here. Then we went to lunch. Lunch wasn't much different than in America. You just sat down, talked, and ate! I think the most surprising thing about my first day was how all the girls seemed to like me! I really enjoyed my day all around. I learned new things. My subjects were the same, so I feel very comfortable. September 8 I've finished my first week at school. Guess what! For P.E. everyone changes in the classroom! The boys change with the girls! We change out of our uniforms, and put on t-shirts, shorts, and plimsolls (for inside) or trainers (for outside). I was embarrassed, so I hid in a corner and changed. Our first P.E., we went out on the field and did warmups: curl-ups and stuff. Then we ran around the soccer field. Mrs. Hillman also teaches P.E. (at home we have a special P.E. teacher). After running you got to choose whether to play netball, a game kind of like basketball, or soccer. I chose soccer. By the way, the boys let me play soccer with them now. I play almost every recess and lunch. When you do assemblies here, Mr. Archer comes up and says, "Good morning, everyone." Then the children say, "Good morning, Mr. Archer. Good morning, everyone!" Well, that's pretty much it for now. I think the school year will work out fine! Learn more about the Fulbright Program
