John Melton
"I think teaching is the most important job on the planet – well, except for being a good parent, which is more important." So says John Melton, who has taught at both middle schools and high schools in Northern California for 17 years. When he's not teaching biology, John enjoys spending time with family and friends. He is happy to abandon them, however, for a game of golf, and he plans to play many of the golf courses in England and Scotland during his teaching year abroad.

Holly Melton
Holly Melton is a children's writer. In the past two decades, she has written for the K-12 school market, toy companies, educational software companies, and the Internet. "My daughters are my best critics," Holly says. "If they don't laugh, I know that what I wrote wasn't funny. I'm not sure what I'll do when they grow up!" In her spare time, Holly enjoys reading, travel, and a good game of tennis.

Beth Melton
"Harry Potter rocks!" says Beth Melton, an 11-year-old J. K. Rowling fan. She and her younger sister have seen J. K. Rowling in person, and Beth proudly possesses three signed first editions of the Harry Potter books. Although Beth would be attending middle school in the States, she'll be entering a "high school" in England. In addition to reading, Beth loves to play soccer, perform in plays, have fun with her friends, and hang out with her toy poodle, Hugo.

Mimi Melton
Ten-year-old Mimi Melton is a Piranha. No, she's not a fish, although she spends a lot of time in the water. The Piranhas are her year-round swim team in Northern California. "I enjoy swimming because of my friends on the swim team," Mimi says. "I hope to make new friends on a swim team in England." Besides swimming, Mimi's hobbies include soccer, basketball, playing trumpet, and reading (she's a big Harry Potter fan).
