Wild for Weather
What causes certain types of weather? What do different types of clouds tell you about the coming weather? How do scientists measure weather changes? Read on to find out! Write the answers in your science notebook or on another sheet of paper.
Weather Basics
1. Go to the Weather Basics site (http://www.wxdude.com/basics.html).
Click on "Chapter One: Meteorology" to begin your weather adventure.
Read the information and then record in your notebook three important ideas
that answer this question: What causes weather to change?
Precipitation
2. Rain, snow, and hail are forms of precipitation. Click the "Back"
button. Then click on "Chapter Two: Precipitation" to continue your
weather adventure. Write what surprises you most in your notebook.
Clouds
3. Find the chapter about clouds. In your notebook, draw each type of cloud
and jot down a few notes so you can remember what kind of weather each cloud
might predict.
What's the Forecast?
4. Find a chapter that tells about different instruments used to record weather
data. Which ones have you heard of? Which ones have you used? Make a list in
your notebook.
Just Browsing
5. Browse some more! Record three things that you learned about the weather.
Be prepared to share and explain what you learned!
Optional
Test your weather knowledge by taking a quiz. How can you find the answers to
quiz questions you don't know? Write an action plan. Then record at least one
thing you liked about this website and one thing you disliked. You can share
your ideas during the Internet Workshop.
