Frequently Asked Questions about Email Cards
If I send an Email Card, will I get more unrelated email later on?
What about the person I send the card to?
We use your email address, and that of your recipient, only to send the Email Card notifications. If there are problems with the email once you've sent it, you may receive further email notifying you that the card could not be delivered.
Can other TeacherVision® users see my Email Card? What about TeacherVision®
employees?
Other users cannot see your Email Card unless they have the URL that appears
in the email messages to the sender and recipient. Each Email Card is kept private
through the use of a "key" – a large random number assigned when it is
created – that only the sender and recipient have in their URLs. Attempts to guess the URLs of Email Cards would require trying all the possible random numbers that
the system might assign. This would take a long time.
TeacherVision® employees respect your privacy. We will view Email Cards only if necessary to diagnose a problem, in accordance with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.
When I tried to send an Email Card, I got an error message about the
recipient's email address. What do I do?
We verify that the domain name of the recipient – the part to the
right of the @ – is correct before we try to send it. If the domain name
isn't valid, or it is valid but it's not set up to receive Internet mail,
we return you to the Send Card page so that you can correct it.
I want to put HTML (or pictures, or attachments) in the Email Card.
Sorry, Email Cards can only contain text at this time.
I've just received an Email Card. How can I print it out?
Just click on the "Printer-friendly Version" link near the bottom of
the page, and use your browser's print function to print out the
card.
When I print out my Email Card, the bottom part (containing the message)
doesn't have the nice background color that it had on the screen.
Web browsers normally suppress background colors when printing, but
you can override this.
On Netscape 4, go to "Print Setup..." (under File) and check the checkbox labeled "Print Background."
On IE 5,
· Go to "Internet Options..." (under Tools)
· Choose the "Advanced" tab
· Scroll down to Printing. Check "Print background colors and images."
For other browsers, consult the Help Pages for that browser.
When I print out my Email Card, the title of the card appears twice.
This is normal. Most Web browsers print the HTML title of the page – the title that
appears at the top of your browser, above the File/Edit/... buttons –
at the top or bottom of the printed page. On Email Cards, the HTML
title is also used as the heading that appears just above the card
itself.
You can change the printed header if you want. On Microsoft's Internet Explorer and on Netscape 4, go to Page Setup (under File). For other browsers, consult the help pages for that browser.
I want to upload a picture and create my own Email Card.
We don't provide that capability right now.
I want to delay sending an Email Card until a future date.
We plan to provide this capability in the near future.
