Turkey Bulletin Board

Help your students discover whether a turkey is a bird while they color, draw, and decorate. View an example of this bulletin board idea for November.

Materials and Supplies

  • Medium-blue cloth background
  • Brown border
  • Brown letters
  • Computer paper
  • Any white paper that crayons can write on (Used computer paper, clean on one side, is good.)
  • Wide-tipped black and brown markers
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Brown grocery bags (optional)
  • Red, brown, orange, black, and yellow paper (optional)
  • Red, brown, orange, black, and yellow paints (optional)

Instructions

  1. Using white paper and crayons, colored paper, or grocery bags and paints, make three or more turkeys from the turkey pattern. Make one red, one orange, and one brown. Make as many as your bulletin board can hold, if desired. Glue the legs in place.
  2. Overlap the turkeys on the bulletin board.
  3. Place two sheets of computer paper end-to-end. Overlap them 1/2" and glue them together. Print these words on the paper: Only Birds Have Feathers.
  4. Do not put this sentence under the turkeys until after the discussion with students.
  5. Discuss the question: Is the turkey a bird? Ask the children what they think and why they think that way.
  6. Ask children what birds have that no other animals have. (feathers)
  7. Let the children draw and color their own turkeys, or give each a pattern to color.
