Snail, Snail
Grade Levels: Pre-K - 2
Objectives
Students will build community and practice cooperation skills.
Materials
Masking Tape
Procedures
- Tape a circle on the floor big enough so that each child may sit comfortably on the tape.
- Have children find a seat in the circle. You stand in the middle.
- Explain that when you give a certain signal (of your choosing) they will stand up and hold each other's hands.
- Encourage children to continue holding hands throughout the activity, but also not to hold hands too tightly.
- Give signal. Students should stand and hold hands. Have them walk in a circle, on the taped circle.
- Once children have practiced this and are able to walk in a circle without letting go of hands, take the hand of one of the students.
- Tell the students that they are going to make a snail by wrapping the line around you.
- Have the student at the head of the line walk slowly in a circle, wrapping the line around you in a spiral. When no one is left moving the line is complete.
- Extend the activity by making smaller and smaller taped circles on the floor, seeing how small the circle can be without the students bumping into each other too much.
