May 2008, Vol. 1

Girl writing on chalkboard Dear Teacher,

As Memorial Day (May 26) draws near, commemorate the lives and sacrifices of millions of soldiers who have fought for their country. From the holiday's beginnings after the Civil War to today's war in Iraq, show your students that they should be proud of all those who serve in the military.

May is Physical Education Month. What better time to help your students understand the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle? We have fun and educational games that can be played indoors and out, plus lesson plans on the body's response to exercise.

Get Caught Reading Month is also celebrated in May. Emphasize the basics of reading in your classroom – from phonics to comprehension – with our lessons and activities. Plus, encourage your students to get started on their summer reading lists!

The different branches and confusing rules of the U.S. Government can be difficult for students to grasp. The current presidential election might inspire your students to learn more about the election process, the three branches of government, and the Constitution.

It's almost time for report cards again! We have tons of advice to help you sail through the grading process unscathed.

Best Wishes,
The Editors of TeacherVision.com
