Dear Teacher,
It's time to get ready for Thanksgiving! This issue of Great Stuff for Teachers is dedicated to all things Thanksgiving and related subjects. Enjoy creating turkey arts & crafts with your students while studying the historical background of the holiday: American Indians, Pilgrims, and Colonial Times.
Native Americans played a vital role in the first Thanksgiving, and November is also American Indian Heritage Month. It's the perfect time to study their culture and traditions. Include a lesson on Thanksgiving from a different point of view, as well: colonization.
Pilgrims are another vital group to discuss around the Thanksgiving holiday. Make sure your students understand why they came to America, how they adjusted to life here, and how they are similar to immigrants today.
Colonial Times can be considered a period of great hardship, but those who lived in that era also enjoyed games and crafts, just like Americans do today.
No matter what time of year it is, teachers can benefit from our resources on Classroom Organization. Find advice on classroom arrangement, time management for teachers and students, and more organizational tips.
Best Wishes, The Editors of TeacherVision.com
