Help: The Search Tool

The Search Tool is designed to filter the database of thousands of resources offered on TeacherVision.com. They are categorized into a variety of topics and subtopics, plus different page types (such as article, printable, or graphic organizer). As you look for specific materials, choose topics and subtopics to narrow your search results. The more precise your search is, the more likely you are to find the exact materials you are looking for.

Searching with Words

You can search on TeacherVision.com using a word or words. Simply enter your topic in the search box at the top right-hand corner of the screen, and click OK or press "Enter." The more specific your search term, the easier it will be for you to find what you are looking for. Example: Searching with the term "math" will yield thousands of results. Searching with the terms "measurement" or "algebra" or "elementary math" will yield much more specific resources. Make sure your search terms are spelled correctly, or you may receive an error.

Search Fractions

For searching phrases, use quotation marks: If you want to search for a specific phrase (including multiple words), such as learning disabilities, be sure to place it in quotation marks ("learning disabilities"). Otherwise, you will get results for the word learning, the word disabilities, and the phrase learning disabilities.

Sorting Your Results

You can sort your search results, to refine your search, by choosing one of the dropdown options to the right of the results list. Please note that if you search by a word or words and then narrow your search, the word or words will remain as part of the search.

Search & Sort

  • Most Relevant
This is the default option. It sorts your results according to how closely those pages match your search term(s). Use the pull-down menu to choose the option you want, then click "Submit."

  • Most Popular
This option sorts your results according to their popularity on the site.

  • Newest
This option sorts your results according to how recently they have been added to the website.

  • Page Type
This option sorts your results according to the type of resource the material is (such as article, printable, graphic organizer, lesson plan, or reference).

  • Grades
This option allows you to filter the results by grade level.

*Note: Only one of these sorting options can be chosen at a time. If you choose to sort by "most popular" and then by "grade," your results will not be the most popular resources for that grade. They will only be sorted by grade.

Refining Your Results

If you reach a search-results page via the Lesson Plans or Subjects tabs, your options for refining your results will be slightly different. You can still sort your results as described above, but you are able to sort by two options (such as "page type" and "newest") instead of just one. You are also able to search within your original results, refining the list, by entering a new search term. Follow the directions under "Searching with Words" for more help.
