Marge Simpson Costume

Time: 3 hours
Effort: A bit more advanced - sewing definitely required
Materials:

  • Poster board
  • Quilt batting
  • Blue spray paint
  • Several yards of green fabric
  • Elastic ribbon
  • Large wooden beads (10-15, depending upon the size of your child's neck and 2 feet of string)
  • Red spray paint
  • Red shoes
  • Glue
  • False eyelashes (optional)
  • Yellow face paint (optional)
  • Instructions:
Hair: Roll the poster board into a cone-like shape and fit to your child's head. This will be the "frame" for the hair. Shape as desired. Glue the quilt batting to the cardboard. Rip off pieces to create a "curly" look. Once this dries, spray paint blue.
Dress: Measure the green fabric to fit as a tube-dress. Use elastic to hold around the chest. Some sewing is required for this step unless you use the fabric as a sarong.
Necklace: String the wooden beads to fit around your neck. Paint red. Wait until they are dry to put on your neck. Add false eyelashes and yellow face paint to increase the effect.

Tips: The hair can be as high as you want. But remember, the higher the hair, the harder it is to walk through doorways! Buy a blue beehive wig if you can find one. Also, you can buy some stretchy green fabric and wrap it around your child in a tube fashion.
