Student:

  • draws conclusions about characters and events independently, rejecting any conclusions that don't make good sense.
  • can support all conclusions with evidence from the story and prior real life knowledge.
  • answers all items correctly and may list more than one conclusion or more than one piece of evidence to support a conclusion

Competent
Student:

  • uses logical thinking to draw conclusions.
  • can support conclusions with story details with only occasional prompting.
  • fills in at least three-quarters of the chart correctly.

Developing
Student:

  • answers about half the items on the chart correctly.
  • understands what a conclusion is, and knows that evidence for a conclusion is found in story details or illustrations.
  • with prompting, student can sometimes give evidence from the story and real life that support conclusions and show logical thinking

Student:

  • understands that drawing a conclusion means figuring out something about the story.
  • may answer with one or more correct conclusion but cannot support the answer with evidence from the story clues and real life
