A Day in the Life of Colonial America Worksheet

Name_________________________________ Date_____________

As you complete this activity, you'll find out what life was like for the "ordinary" people who lived in colonial America.

    The Place and Time

  1. Go to A Colonial Family and Community (http://www.hfmgv.org/education/smartfun/colonial/intro/). After reading the introduction, click on "Begin" to start your colonial adventure. Remember to click on the hyperlinks to get more information. What do you think would be easy about living in a place like this? What would be difficult?

    Investigate and Explore

  2. Click on "Begin the Investigation" and follow the instructions. As you explore the site, think about the jobs that people did in colonial America. Investigate what family members and community members did to help and support each other. Find out what Americans did during this time to have fun. How did they get their news?

    Gather Your Thoughts

  3. After you explore the site, answer one of the following questions:
    • What information at the website made the biggest impression on you? What did the website make you think about?
    • How did the information at this website strengthen your understanding of colonial America? What new information did you learn?

    Evaluation

  4. Jot down your ideas about the website itself. What made it easy to use? Was it particularly enjoyable? What made it that way?
